The Doctoral Program in Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran builds upon more than four decades of doctoral education in economics and business, and has emerged as a leading doctoral program in Management in Indonesia. Its origins trace back to the Doctoral Program in Economics, which arose from the university’s postgraduate initiative proposed in 1982 and later developed in the mid-1980s. From the outset, the program was structured around three major academic fields: Economics, Management, and Accounting, forming the intellectual foundation for advanced scholarship within the faculty. As these academic communities evolved, each field developed its own research traditions and scholarly networks. In 2009, the Doctoral Program in Economics was administratively integrated into the Faculty of Economics and Business after previously being managed under the university’s Graduate School, strengthening discipline-based doctoral development.
The continued growth of the Management scholarly community led to the establishment of the Doctoral Program in Management (DIM) as an independent doctoral program in 2013, formalized through the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 217/E/O/2013. Since then, the program has been dedicated to advancing rigorous management scholarship and producing impactful research that bridges theory and managerial practice across business, public, and non-profit organizations.
The program’s development has been shaped by distinguished academic leadership. It was first led by the late Prof. Ernie Tisnawati Sule (2013–2015), former Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (2008–2012), whose leadership laid the academic foundation of the program. She was succeeded by Prof. Ina Primiana (2016–2017) and Dr. Sulaeman Rahman (2017–2020), who further strengthened its academic and research environment. The program was later led by Prof. Yudi Azis (2021–2025), former Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (2018–2020), under whose leadership the program expanded its research engagement and collaborations. It is currently led by Prof. Budi Harsanto, continuing the commitment to advancing research excellence, international collaboration, and the global relevance of management scholarship.
